Book review – “The Last Muster’ by Carly Thomas, published by Harper Collins, price $50.00 Reviewed by Tony Orman
Author Carly Thomas was a horse-mad kid right from the start begging for horses rides from friends who had a horse. Carly yearned for a horse of her own.
Eventually with her mother’s permission she had her own horse and has been with a horse ever since.
Not surprisingly Carly’s first job was at a race-course stable.
Since then she has mustered by horse on some great high country stations such as Otago’s Greenstone Station to Muller Station in Marlborough’s Awatere valley to Bluff Station in the Chatham Islands and several others such as Marlborough’s Muller and Middlehurst stations, the well known St James station north of Lewis Pass and Hawkes Bay’s Smedley Station.
“The Last Muster” is an excellent book, enhanced by the author’s engaging writing style. If you’re into the outdoors and particularly high country sheep stations, this is a book with big appeal.
The book is liberally illustrated with a judicious mix of colour and black and white photos.
“The Last Muster” gets a well earned “highly recommended.”
