Help Improve Responsible Camping Education - RCA Invites Your Feedback

CORANZ member organisation Responsible Campers Association (RCA) is developing practical tools to support responsible freedom camping across Aotearoa - and they’re asking for help from the wider outdoor recreation community.

RCA has created an online Responsible Camping Accreditation Quiz, designed to cover the core expectations around freedom camping, waste management, environmental protection, and respect for local communities.

Rather than treating this as a finished product, RCA is actively seeking feedback on the questions themselves - what works, what doesn’t, and how the quiz could be clearer, fairer, or more effective.

What RCA is asking from CORANZ members

CORANZ members and supporters are invited to:

  • Review the quiz questions,
  • Complete the quiz, and
  • Provide feedback on how the questions could be improved, including clarity, accuracy, relevance, or tone.

This is an opportunity for people who actually use public land - trampers, anglers, hunters, campers, and other recreationists - to help shape education that reflects real-world experience, not just policy assumptions.

👉 You can access the quiz here:

Why this matters

Access to public land increasingly depends on demonstrating that recreationists are responsible, informed, and willing to lift standards from within.

Education tools like this only work if they:

  • are practical and realistic,
  • reflect how people actually recreate,
  • and are trusted by the communities they’re aimed at.

By contributing feedback, CORANZ members can help ensure the quiz supports continued access, environmental care, and fair expectations for campers - without unnecessary complexity or unintended consequences.

CORANZ encourages participation

CORANZ supports initiatives that strengthen responsible outdoor recreation and reduce pressure for blanket restrictions or loss of access.

We encourage members to take a few minutes to look through the quiz and offer constructive feedback to RCA. Improving education now helps protect access in the future.

If you’d like, I can also:

  • adapt this for email/newsletter format,
  • write a short social media version, or
  • add a clear “How to submit feedback” line if RCA has a preferred method.

Just say the word.
