Valentine’s Day - Love Your Place

CORANZ seasonal post

Valentine’s Day doesn’t need roses, restaurants, or ribbons.

Sometimes the best way to celebrate is simply to step outside - and share a place you care about.

Here are a few simple, low-impact ways to show a little love this February.

CORANZ, Council of Outdoor Recreation Associations of NZ

💙 Draw a Heart in the Sand

Take someone to the beach. Draw a heart in the sand. Let the tide take it.

Love doesn’t need to leave a mark to be real.

🌊 Write It in Pebbles

Arrange stones in a heart shape on the shoreline - then return them before you leave.

Temporary. Gentle. Respectful.

🌿 Frame a View Together

Stand at your favourite lookout and photograph each other with the horizon behind you.

Sometimes the landscape is the message.

🏞 Revisit Your “First”

The first swim.
The first camp.
The first fish.
The first summit.

Go back. See what’s changed - and what hasn’t.

🔥 Share a Sunset

No props required. Just a ridge, a beach, or a riverbank and a little patience.

Nature does the decorating.

🌳 Hug the Tree - Don’t Carve It

Carving hearts into bark was once a romantic gesture.

Protecting the tree is better.

🚶 Walk Somewhere New

Try a short coastal track, a local reserve, or a nearby river path you’ve never explored together.

Shared discovery is its own kind of spark.

🐾 Leave a Heart of Footprints

Two sets of footprints meeting on wet sand say enough.

No carving required.

🧭 Plan a Future Adventure

Book nothing. Buy nothing.
Just choose a place you’ll visit together this year.

Anticipation lasts longer than chocolates.

Valentine’s Day is a reminder that we protect what we love.

That includes the people beside us - and the places we share.

This year, keep it simple.
Step outside.
Leave no scars.
Take home a memory instead.
